Centre Police Release Additional Details Regarding Recent Arrest

According to a Release Just Issued by the Centre Police Department – 08/14/2024

A Honduran man, who has been residing locally has been arrested by the Centre Police Department, in reference to both Burglary 2nd Degree and Attempted Rape 1st Degree Charges.  On July 27th (07/27/2024), the Centre Police Department received a call for service at a location within the city limits of Centre, where a Hispanic male was the suspect in a burglary and the attempted rape of a woman.  Two women were inside the home when the attack happened and able to fight off the suspect causing him to flee from the residence.

Centre units, along with Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office units, arrived at the scene where the area was canvassed, but the suspect was not found.

Evidence was left behind at the scene and collected by law enforcement.

The Hispanic male was later identified as: Marvin Osmar Chavez Canales, from Honduras.  He was also a neighbor of the victim – and was found at his residence at a later date where he was interviewed and subsequently arrested for Burglary 2nd Degree and Attempted Rape 1st Degree.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) – have also been notified of the arrest.
