JACKSONVILLE – Despite being placed on probation late Thursday afternoon by the Alabama High School Athletic Association and not being eligible for postseason following recruiting violations, the Jacksonville Golden Eagles earned a 24-13 non-region football victory over Cherokee County on Friday.

Jaden Jones led the Golden Eagles with 136 yards on 22 carries and a touchdown. Kelvin Hughley had 121 yards on 10 totes with a score, and two catches for 28 yards and a touchdown.

Hughley got the Golden Eagles on the board with a 47-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. He then caught a 28-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Javin Scott later in the quarter to give Jacksonville a 14-0 advantage.

After a scoreless second quarter, the Warriors (3-2) cut the Golden Eagle lead to 14-7 on Tatum Perry’s 18-yard touchdown pass to Keshawn Thomas.

Perry led the Warriors by completing 24-of-39 pass attempts for 254 yards and a touchdown. Thomas had four catches for 58 yards and a score. Isaiah Young led the Warrior receivers with nine receptions for 108 yards. Jayshawn Stroup finished with six catches for 73 yards

Golden Eagle kicker Jack Thomas extended Jacksonville’s lead to 17-7 with a 31-yard field goal to open the fourth quarter. Jones added a 58-yard touchdown run later on to give the Golden Eagles a 24-7 advantage.

Perry scored on a 2-yard run late in the game for the final.

Cherokee County seeks to rebound on Friday when it hosts Scottsboro.
