GAYLESVILLE – In what Gaylesville football coach Brian Knapp described as an old-fashioned, defensive throwback game, the Trojans were able to hold on and nip Donoho on homecoming by the final of 16-15 on Friday night.

Sean Poss and Jack Sentell had the only touchdowns for the Trojans (3-2). Poss also had a 2-point conversion. He led Gaylesvlle with 80 yards on seven carries. Sentell also had seven carries for 70 yards and a touchdown.

“We didn’t have but 18 snaps in the whole game, but our defense did a really good job,” Knapp said. “They would bend, but they wouldn’t break.”

After Donoho (3-2) took its first drive and scored on a Luke Farrell touchdown, Poss broke off a big touchdown run. Following a 2-point conversion, Gaylesville led 8-7 at halftime.

A Sentell touchdown run and another 2-point conversion in the second half put the Trojans up 16-7. Donoho’s Farrell scored again with about 2:30 remaining in the game. The Falcons were successful on the 2-point try to close within a point, but Gaylesville was able to hold on for the win.

Farrell led the Falcons with 84 yards on 24 carries with two scores. He was also 12-of-23 passing for 144 yards.

Bradlee Smith topped the Trojan defense with seven tackles, including three for loss, with five assists. Parker Fletcher made six stops with three assists. Malachi Jennings made five tackles with five assists. Sentell added five tackles and four assists.

Poss, Aydn Heinrich and Timmy Dawson each had five tackles and two assists. Lucas McCullough finished with four tackles, including two for loss, with two assists.

Gaylesville hosts Appalachian on Thursday.
