Mrs. Carolyn B. Whorton

Mrs. Carolyn B. Whorton, age 86, a lifelong resident of Centre, Alabama, passed away peacefully on July 13, 2024 surrounded by her loving family.  She is preceded in death by her parents Van A. Brashier and Flora Grimes Brashier and her brother Joe Van Brashier.

Carolyn graduated from Cherokee County High School in 1956.  After devoting herself as a wife, mother and homemaker for several years, Carolyn completed her nursing degree at Gadsden State Community College.  She then provided excellent care as a Registered Nurse to the community for approximately 35 years.

Carolyn came to know Jesus as her Lord and Savior at an early age.  She was a lifelong active member of Tates Chapel Baptist Church and then the First Baptist Church of Centre.  Carolyn was a woman with purity of heart, full of love for her family and friends.

Carolyn was a devoted wife to Charley Whorton for over 68 years.  She was a supportive and sacrificial wife, mother, and grandmother who delighted in everything pertaining to her children and grandchildren.  Carolyn attended many events and ballgames across the deep south.  She had an adventurous spirit!  In her 80’s, Carolyn climbed rocks and boulders at Yellow Creek just to watch her grandchildren jump off the high cliffs.  She loved going on trips with her family as well as traveling with Jack and Edna Faye Kisor.

Carolyn was excited and enthusiastic when her sons married.  She always made her daughters in law feel loved and she enjoyed spending time with them, treating them like the daughters she never had.

Carolyn is survived by her husband Charley W. Whorton; children Ronnie (Bess) and Mark (Lee); seven grandchildren Charlie (Sara), Wilson (Samantha), Sam (Hannah), Mary Elizabeth, Rachel, Anna, and Katelyn; three great-grandchildren Mary Cooper, Abigail, and Frances.

The family would like to express heartfelt gratitude to friends and family who have generously served and deeply loved.  Special thanks is extended to Derrick Steed, Terri Kelly, Shorty and Frankie Trammell, Harry Richardson, Jimmy and Melba Lee, and Benny Nicholson.

Special Recognition is also deserved for Jennifer Reynolds and the staff at Cherokee Village Assisted Living, Silver Lakes Assisted Living (Glencoe, AL), and the CCHRC Memory Care Unit.

A Celebration of Life service in the memory of Carolyn Whorton will be held on Monday, July 15, 2024.  Visitation will be from 3-5 pm at the Perry Funeral Home with a memorial service immediately following.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations in the memory of Carolyn Whorton to the First Baptist Church Building Fund.
