Staff Reports

WEAVER – Savannah Smith gave up a pair of earned runs on eight hits with a walk and 11 strikeouts, but her effort in the circle wasn’t enough for the Piedmont Lady Bulldogs at Weaver on Thursday in a 7-2 softball setback.

Ava Pope led the Lady Bulldogs (15-7) with a hit, a run and a RBI. Smith, Carson Young, Jaycee Glover, Cadence Buttram and Eliza Mathis had the other Piedmont hits. N’Kiya Bothwell scored the other Lady Bulldog run.

Piedmont held a 2-0 lead heading into the bottom of the fourth inning, when Weaver scored all seven of its runs.
