Local Plumbers are Getting More Calls During the Holidays

Some local plumbers say they’re experiencing a higher call volume for issues all across the board. They noticed the increase started around Thanksgiving.

Kerry Adkins, president of OnTime Service, says it’s unusual to get so many this time of the year, adding it’s not cold enough yet to see busted pipes so they’re getting calls about everything else: leaky faucets, clogged drains, and water heater failures.

Unfortunately though, Adkins says they’re not exactly sure why.

He’s recommending to keep up with general maintenance to help avoid running into similar problems right now.

A big thing they check for when they’re out on calls is water pressure. He says if yours is harder than normal, there could be a problem coming soon.

“Sometimes it’s noticeable,” Adkins explains. “You turn the faucet on and it’s like ‘Wow! It’s coming out way harder than it used to.’ If you notice something like that, there’s something going on with your water pressure. While a lot of people go, ‘I love it! It’s great water pressure. The shower feels awesome.’ It’s going to make your faucets and your appliances fail quicker.”

Adkins wants to remind everyone as they’re cooking holiday meals during the next week to not pour grease down the kitchen sink because it can really hurt the pipes.

Instead, you can pour the grease in a glass container. When it hardens, just scoop it into the trash.
