All Fire Departments in Cherokee County Getting New AED’s

During the regular meeting of the County Commission Monday, the Commission approved for all 13 Volunteer Fire Departments to have a new AED, automated external defibrillator which is used to help those experiencing sudden cardiac arrest. It is to monitor the hearts rhythm and deliver an electric shock if necessary. The total cost to the County is $10,360. Chairman Burgess told the Commission this is through the County EMA.

The Sheriff Department will be getting a new training center building. The Commission approved a contract for a prefab metal building in the amount of $41, 337. The Commission also approve an architect agreement with PH&J Architects for the construction administration of the Sheriff Department Training Facility.

In other business the Commission approved to nominate Commission Chairman Tim Burgess to serve on the 2023-24 ACCA Legislative Committee. The computer and software support agreement with Delta Computer Systems in the amount of $1180 per month was approved with the chairman to sign for the county.

It was approved for bids to be let on a 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, four wheel drive, crew cab work truck for the highway department, 2-2023 Ford Transit Connect XL Vans for the Nutrition Center, and a mobile morgue for the Coroner’s office.

The Senior Community Service Employment Program Host Agency Agreement for the next fiscal year was approved with the Chairman to sign for the county. A 1997 CAT D7 bulldozer with ripper was declared surplus and will be sold at the next available public auction.

The Next meeting of the County Commission will be Monday, July 24th at 5pm in the Commission Chambers.
