Piedmont advances to Class 3A, Area 10 softball tournament title game

PIEDMONT – Piedmont earned its way to the Class 3A, Area 10 softball tournament championship game with an 11-1 victory over Saks and a 1-0 win over Weaver on Saturday.

In the win over Saks, Cacey Brothers, Ava Pope and Savannah Smith each went 2-for-3 with two runs. Brothers homered and drove in three runs. Pope and Smith both had a pair of doubles. Pope drove in two runs and Smith drove in a run. Kaelyn Greene also had a double.

Jaycee Glover contributed a hit, two runs and a RBI. Cadence Buttram had a hit and scored a run. Carson Young came away with a hit. N’Kiya Bothwell scored twice and Amarae Champion scored once.

Young earned the win in the circle after tossing five innings of two-hit ball. She gave up an earned run and had 11 strikeouts.

In the win over Weaver, Smith tossed a four-hitter with 10 strikeouts. She also had a hit and drove in the game’s only run. Cayla Brothers had a hit and scored a run. Amiyah Thomas had the only other Lady Bulldog hit.

Piedmont plays in the area championship game on Monday at 6 p.m.
