Collinsville baseball falls short at Mars Hill Bible

FLORENCE – Despite out-hitting Mars Hill on Saturday, the Collinsville Panthers’ baseball season ended with a 6-5 setback in the second round of the Class 2A state baseball playoffs.

Gavin Lang tripled, doubled, walked, scored a run and drove in one for the fifth-ranked Panthers (26-7). Mason McAteer also managed two hits, a walk, a run and a RBI.

Jeremiah Killian and Justin Pruitt both doubled and drove in a run. Tytan Morgan had a hit, a walk and scored a run. Cooper Coker and Jake Middlebrooks both finished with a hit. Kyler Beene scored two runs.

Morgan suffered the loss after working just one inning. He gave up four earned runs on five hits with no walks and a strikeout. Will Edmondson tossed 4 1/3 innings of one-hit ball. He gave up an earned run and walked three batters with a strikeout. Braxton Daugherty worked a hitless 2/3 of an inning.

Eighth-ranked Mars Hill advances to face Vincent in next weekend’s third round. Vincent swept Fyffe in other second-round action.
