Two Hit and Injured on Train Tracks in Rome, Georgia

The Rome Police Department has released the incident report regarding two people who were struck by a train last weekend.

Officers were dispatched to the railroad tracks behind Goodwill on Hicks Drive just before 9:00pm Saturday and found a woman laying on the gravel next to the train with serious injuries.  A man was also located lying on a pillar of the trestle.

The train conductor told police he saw the two on the tracks on the river bridge and he blew the horn while attempting to slow down.  However, according to the train’s engineer, because the tracks were on a bridge, the two would have had to jump off to be safe.

Both 31-year-old Jessia Lenzi-Cathryn Collins and 40-year-old Michael Cody Doi were struck by the snow plow on the front of the lead engine.  They were transported to Atrium Health Floyd for treatment.

We’ll have additional information as it becomes available.
