Two Killed in Oxford House Fire During Early Morning Hours

Two men were fatally injured when fire swept through a house in downtown Oxford this (Tuesday) morning.  Firefighters were able to rescue an 8-year-old girl who had to be hospitalized in Birmingham.

The Oxford Fire Department responded at 1:56am to reports of a fire at 24 Main Street.  City spokeswoman Lorie Denton stated the first firefighters arrived on the scene at 2:00am, to find that heavy fire was showing and people were trapped inside.

Crews were able to pull the girl from the fire and she was then treated on scene by Oxford Health System Paramedics and then taken to Children’s Hospital of Alabama. The severity of her injuries wasn’t immediately known.  Firefighters found the two men dead inside – their identities have not yet been released.

The cause of the fire is now under investigation by the Alabama State Fire Marshal’s Office with assistance from the Oxford Fire Department and the Oxford Police Department.
