SPRING GARDEN– A Cherokee County investigation has led to Jacob Wheeler’s arrest on seven counts of possession with intent to disseminate child sexual abuse material.
The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest in an Oct. 24 release identifying Wheeler as a Spring Garden man.
According to the release, the Criminal Investigations Division identified Wheeler as a suspect during an ongoing Internet Crimes Against Children investigation.
Investigators also learned that Wheeler had active Georgia warrants related to child sex crimes after Georgia authorities contacted them. The release does not specify the Georgia charges.
Investigators then executed an arrest warrant and a search warrant at Wheeler’s residence on County Road 793. They took him into custody without incident, according to the sheriff’s office.
Members of the United States Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force also assisted with the operation.
Meanwhile, the sheriff’s office says the investigation remains ongoing and additional charges are possible.
All charges are allegations. Wheeler is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
