PLEASANT VALLEY– Two men face burglary and witness intimidation charges following an investigation at Green’s Store in the Pleasant Valley/Williams community.
The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office identified the men as Hunter Frost and Talen Warren. According to its announcement, deputies arrested them around 5:30 p.m. and booked them into the Calhoun County Jail with $20,000 bonds.
Both face charges of third-degree burglary and intimidating a witness, the sheriff’s office said.
Sheriff Says No One Was Inside the Store
The department also addressed social media posts describing the incident as a robbery. However, officials said that description does not accurately reflect what happened at the store.
“This was a burglary. No one was present in the store at the time of the theft,” the sheriff’s office stated.
The office explained that people sometimes use robbery and burglary interchangeably, creating confusion about an incident’s circumstances.
How Burglary and Robbery Differ
Under Alabama law, burglary can involve knowingly entering or remaining unlawfully in a building with intent to commit a crime inside. The law also covers both occupied and unoccupied buildings.
As a result, a building does not have to be empty for an offense to qualify as burglary.
Robbery, by comparison, involves force or the threat of immediate force against a person during a theft or attempted theft. It can also include force used during the immediate escape afterward.
For Green’s Store, the sheriff’s office specifically confirmed that no one was inside during the theft. The announcement also lists burglary and witness intimidation charges rather than robbery charges.
All charges are allegations. Frost and Warren are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
