Mr. Donald (Donnie) Charles Garrett

Donald (Donnie) Charles Garrett,  born May 10, 1951, passed away peacefully in his sleep and entered the gates of Heaven on December 26, 2022 at age 71.  Donnie was a devoted husband to his wife, Rita (Parker) Garrett for 47 years.  After graduating with a BS in Agriculture from Auburn University, his row crop farming career began.  He was known and well respected by the community and farmers across the state.  In past years, he served on the ALFA Farmers Federation state board and has served on the county board, as well as the Farmer’s Co Op board for numerous years.  He was a lifelong member of Centre First United Methodist Church.

He owned Garrett Farms Racing team and loved spending his Saturday nights at the track with his family.

Donnie was a devout family man. He and Rita shared a bond like no other.  His daughter, Alexandrea (Andrea) Garrett-Helms and her husband Jeff, along with his two grandchildren Beau Grayson and Jett were the joy of his life.

Donnie was preceded in death by his mother, the late Villeta Stinson Garrett and father, the late sheriff Mack Garrett.

Along with his wife, daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren, he is survived by his brothers Billy Mack Garrett and Tom Garrett, and his nephews Steve Garrett, David Garrett, Sid Garrett and Wayne Garrett along with a host of family and friends who were like family

Donnie was a true pillar of community and the salt of the earth and will be missed by all.

Visitation will be held Wednesday from 5-8PM at Perry Funeral Home in Centre.

The funeral will be held at Centre First United Methodist Church sanctuary Thursday at 1PM with a graveside service to follow at Garrett Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Steve Garrett, John Richards, Rickey Cash, Bill Frey, Jason Morris

Pete Lemons, Stanley Free, Honorary Pallbearers will be David Garrett, Sid Garrett

Wayne Garrett, Donnie Walker Clinton Melendez, Nick McMichen, Howard Pittman

The family requests no flowers and wishes to extend thanks to all those who have shown love during this incredibly hard time.
