Clouds and Rain Could Provide Some Relief from the Heat for Our Area / Heat Advisory for South Alabama

It was another record day for temperatures in Mobile.  The National Weather Service said the mercury hit 101 degrees on Friday tying the record last reached in 2009.  It’s the second day in a row for records in Mobile – which hit 102 degrees on Thursday –  breaking the record of 101 degrees for June 23rd set in 2009.  Mobile was the only big city in Alabama to reach record territory on Friday, however, it was hot across the state.

Some high temperatures from around the state included:

Anniston: 95 degrees (record 98 degrees in 1981)

Auburn: 95 degrees (record not available)

Birmingham: 97 degrees (record 99 degrees in 1981)

Huntsville: 97 degrees (record 105 degrees in 1930)

Montgomery: 102 degrees (record 103 degrees in 1930)

Muscle Shoals: 96 degrees (record 103 degrees in 1914)

Troy: 100 degrees (record not available)

Tuscaloosa: 99 degrees (record 103 degrees in 2012)

Look for more above-average temperatures today (Saturday).  West Alabama will be the hottest spot – meanwhile east Alabama could finally catch a bit of a break, thanks to increased chances for clouds and rain.

The Heat Index could range from 105 to 110 degrees today (Saturday), in parts of the state.
