After several quiet days the chance for severe weather could return to the forecast for Alabama late this weekend. The Storm Prediction Center is forecasting a Level 1 out of 5 risk for severe weather for northern and parts of central Alabama on Sunday – mainly from Sunday afternoon into the night.
A Level 1 risk means that isolated severe storms will be possible and the strongest of those could produce damaging wind gusts and hail.
Isolated to scattered rain showers, and storms, will be possible on Saturday, and into the day on Sunday.
The weather service will also be watching northwestern portions of Alabama in case a complex of storms develops and tracks into the state. If that holds together it could bring a few severe storms with it.
The rain chances could linger into Monday, then look for drier weather and possibly some of the hottest temperatures of the year going into next week – with highs in the mid-90s possible in some areas.
