Severe Weather including Heavy Rain and High Winds Possible Thursday

Strong to severe storms will be possible across all of Alabama Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.

Forecasters say damaging wind gusts of up to 60 mph, heavy rainfall, and a tornado will be possible with the strongest storms.  It will also be extremely windy even away from the storms.  The weather service has issued wind advisories that’ll go into effect on Thursday morning.  The Storm Prediction Center has put North and West Alabama under a slight risk for that severe weather on Thursday; a slight risk is Level 2 out of 5 and means scattered severe storms will be possible.

Strong storms could enter west Alabama as early as 2:00pm Thursday – and then exit eastern Alabama during the overnight hours.  Thursday afternoon and early evening have the potential to see the strongest storms.  Winds could gust up to 40 to 50 mph or possibly even higher in some areas and could bring down some tree limbs, and knock out power.  A Wind Advisory will be in effect for all of northern Alabama from 6:00am until after midnight.

The weekend is expected to stay dry, but another chance for rain will likely enter the forecast early next week.  No severe weather is expected with the early-week system, according to the weather service.
