Northern Alabama Could Experience Heavy Rainfall and High Winds Today (Monday)

Alabama will have to deal with the first possibility for severe weather in quite awhile today (On Monday, December 6th) as a cold front moves across the area, creating the potential for isolated strong storms.

On Sunday, the National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center put the northwest corner of Alabama at what is termed a Marginal Risk for severe weather – which is a Level 1 out of 5, meaning isolated severe storms will be possible.

Forecasters say damaging wind gusts are the primary threat – BUT a tornado can’t be ruled out; the weather service also said that between a half and one and a half inches of rain could be possible as the storms move through.  Wind gusts of between 30 and 40 mph will be possible.

The threat for isolated severe storms will shift southward during the day.  This won’t be the only chance for rain and storms this week, as the weather service is already tracking several other systems, which have the potential to bring storms into our area.
