CENTRE – The Cherokee County High School track and field team was honored Friday night prior to kickoff of the Anniston-Cherokee County football game.
The Warriors finished sixth in the state and had 16 athletes who qualified for the 2021 state track meet in Gulf Shores.
Kaylee Green was a state champion in the discus with a throw of 105 feet. Jack Sammit was a state champion in the 100 meter dash, the 200 meter dash and the shot put.
The Lady Warriors’ 4×400 meter relay team earned gold with a new school record time of 4:11. Team members are Sidney Johnson, Audrey Green, Mary Hayes Johnson and Donice Dupree.
The Lady Warriors 4×100 meter relay team finished runner-up in the state with a time of 50.53 seconds. Team members are Sidney Johnson, Audrey Green, Mary Hayes Johnson and Dupree.
Sidney Johnson also finished fourth in the 400 meter dash and in the top eight in the 200 meter dash. Mary Hayes Johnson finished fifth in the 100 meter dash and eighth in the 400 meter dash. Audrey Green finished in the top eight in the long jump and in the top 20 in the 800 meter run.
The Lady Warriors’ 4×800 meter relay team finished 10th in the state. Team members are Blake Wright, Anna Grace Brock, Deanna Pace and Lilly Shaw.
The Warrior boys 4×400 meter boys relay team finished fourth in the state with a new school record time of 3:38. Team members are Whit Johnson, John Evan Davis, Alex Johnson and Daylin Kellett.
Whit Johnson also took third in the 100 meter dash with a new personal record of 10.91 seconds. He also finished fourth in the 200 meter dash.
Lamycal Mitchell finished fifth in 300 meter hurdles. Isaac Hunter finished in the top 20 in the shot put.
Alex Johnson finished in the top 20 in the 100 meter dash.
