Severe Storms Likely Across the State on Thursday

Practically the entire state of Alabama is facing the threat of severe thunderstorms in varying degrees, with Cherokee County being placed in the Enhanced/Moderate Risk category.

Storms will be possible throughout the day and into the night with the mid-afternoon being the most likely time for the worst weather.  All types of severe weather will be possible today including high winds, hail and the possibility for long-track tornadoes to develop.

A Wind Advisory is in effect for our area from 11:00am until 10:00pm today, w/south winds of 10 to 20 mph and gusts of up to 40 mph possible.  Motorists should exercise caution due to the possibility for downed trees, and/or limbs to be across roadways – they should also be alert for minor flooding resulting from the heavy rainfall.

The National Weather Service is urging everyone to be on guard, no matter what risk level their area is listed in – and that means having access to all alerts – of course, we will keep you update with the latest here on WEIS Radio – 100.5 FM and 990AM – and on our news site at weisradio.com – and through our FREE Text Alert System – all you have to do is text WEATHER 1 to 77000.  We’ve also provided a link to sign up for the CODE RED alerts https://public.coderedweb.com/CNE/en-US/BFB7CC4C6C0A
