Jason McCourty, Delanie Walker to Wear Special Cleats Despite NFL Warning

Allen Kee / ESPN Images(NEW YORK) — NFL players were allowed to customize their shoes to make a statement during Week 13’s “My Cause, My Cleats” weekend.

But not the Tennessee Titans. Tennessee was on its bye week and wasn’t in action. The league will allow them to take part in “My Cause, My Cleats” in Week 14, but only during warm ups,

That’s not stopping cornerback Jason McCourty.

“I believe you should be [allowed], so I’ll be wearing mine for the game,” he said according to ESPN.

Tight end Delanie Walker said he will wear special cleats for the game as well.

McCourty and his twin brother Devin McCourty, who is a safety with the New England Patriots are part of a joint charity called Tackle Sickle Cell. Walker’s cleats honor two charities: MADD and Delanie Walker Gives Back.

However, the last time a Titans player wore designed cleats without league approval, he wasn’t fined. Linebacker Avery Williamson wore cleats honoring victims and responders on the 15th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks when the Titans faced the Vikings in September.

The league ended up not fining Williamson, and it’s unclear if they league will fine McCourty or Walker if they choose to wear their cleats in Week 14.
