A 14 year old boy was rescued during the early morning hours of Thursday (July 11th) – after he fell from a rock ledge on Wednesday.
According to Etowah County Sheriff Todd Entrekin, the incident occurred in the western portion of the county on Buzzard Rock Road as the boy was walking with a group of people in a wooded area near the ledge.
He slipped and fell approximately 100 feet down a steep embankment shortly after 8:00pm.
Multiple agencies – including the Etowah County Sheriff’s Office, the West Etowah and Altoona Volunteer Fire Departments, A-Med Ambulance Service, High-Angle Rescue Teams from Boaz and Oneonta Fire Departments and LifeSaver Helicopter – took part in the rescue effort.
Entrekin says the boy was alert and speaking to public safety personnel when they reached him.
After being lifted to the top of the ledge – he was transported to an area hospital for the treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
