Throughout the month of April, Cherokee County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) is proud to shine a spotlight on the outstanding leaders who work tirelessly to protect and serve our community. Join us as we recognize the dedication, experience, and leadership of public safety professionals across Cherokee County.
Today, we are honored to highlight Gaylesville Fire Chief Bobby Millican
Chief Millican is a highly experienced and respected leader in the fire service, having joined the Gaylesville Volunteer Fire Department in 1996. With a distinguished career spanning 29 years, he has dedicated 27 of those years to leadership roles, consistently advancing the department’s mission of protecting and serving the community.
Throughout his tenure, Chief Millican has earned numerous fire service and emergency management certifications, demonstrating his commitment to continuous professional development. His credentials include advanced training through the National Incident Management System (NIMS), with certifications in ICS 300 and ICS 400, focusing on intermediate and advanced aspects of incident command and disaster response.
In addition to his leadership qualifications, Chief Millican has completed extensive training in fire suppression tactics, vehicle extrication, emergency medical response, and fire department vehicle operations. This diverse skill set enhances his ability to lead in a wide range of emergency scenarios and ensures the highest level of preparedness within the department.
A strong advocate for improving departmental capabilities, Chief Millican was instrumental in securing vehicle extrication equipment for the Gaylesville VFD. This vital acquisition significantly expanded the department’s operational capacity, enabling faster, more effective response to vehicle-related emergencies in both Gaylesville and surrounding communities.
Chief Millican’s legacy is one of service, innovation, and leadership—hallmarks of a career devoted to advancing public safety and empowering the next generation of fire service professionals.
