The Collinsville City Council approved the use of Vaughn Lawn Service to light up the library, the caboose, and Creekside Plaza. The company will construct and install the lights in October or November. By the end of January, they will remove and store them. The clips, lights, plugs, and bulbs are waranteed, and the city will not have to sign a contract. The council may continue using the company in years to come or opt out. While the initial fee is $38,900, subsequent years would cost less.

In other business the council approved a $5,800 bid by for a radio to be installed in the new police truck. Chief Ray Morales said that the quote is a huge discount. The department already has three vehicles with radios on loan from DeKalb County. Morales said that the plan is to upgrade the first truck and gradually equip the others over time.

Librarian Jennifer Wilkins updated the council on the new ladder project. After previously speaking with Mayor Chandler and the Collinsville Public Library Board, Wilkins contacted Roland Anderson, owner of Metal Market in Ft. Payne. The company submitted a quote to install a safety ladder on the front stair landing that would extend to the roof. An application to the Historical Preservation and Architectural Review Board has been submitted. When approved there will be no cost to the city.

Mayor Jeff Chandler and other council members discussed times for the city’s September 7th Labor Day celebration. They decided to publicize a 6:00 pm start with fireworks at dark. Mayor Jeff Chandler recalled being impressed with the national anthem performer, K.B. Solomon. WEIS will carry more details of the event in the coming weeks.
Chandler stated additional updates. He said that fifty new chairs have been purchased and are being stored at the armory. A crane will work on the lights of the new baseball field when the field dries. Also, when Kevin McElrath is cleared by his doctor, the city will have a full crew, including workers Daniel Mann and Danny Warden.
