After answering a call for service, area investigators were approached by a citizen asking questions about a fawn that had been found near a major highway – a young deer that she had been caring for.
The Alabama Division of Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries – came to the scene to assist, and take possession of the fawn. By all means – experts say if you happen to encounter a fawn alone, leave it where you have found it. Fawns are often left alone for hours at a time. Their mothers do this to help prevent predators from finding them. This fawn was given to a Conservation Enforcement Officer and will soon be released to a safer location.
Cherokee County Sheriff Shaver would like to extend a hearty Thank You to the Alabama Division of Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries for all their assistance!
