UPDATE: Alabama Highway 9 (Cedar Bluff Road), between Blackwell’s Crossroads and Powell Drive, had been reopened to traffic.

Large Structure Fire Centre Lumber Yard Friday Morning.

Firefighters, and other emergency personnel, are currently on the scene of what may have started as a propane or a fuel tank fire, and apparently then spread to a structure in Centre, this (Friday) morning.

The first call reporting the issue went out at approximately 7:20am; the initial location was given out as Discount Lumber on Alabama Highway 9 – within moments the entire building was fully involved.

Motorists should be cautious, as water hoses are reportedly across areas of Highway 9 (Cedar Bluff Road) between Blackwell’s Crossroads and Powell Drive, as fire departments battle the blaze.

Detouring around the area is advised.

Officials from Centre, Cedar Bluff, Leesburg, and Spring Creek Fire Departments, as well as the Centre Police Department, Cherokee County EMA, Floyd EMS, and the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Department all responded.

Fortunately, despite the facility suffered extensive damage, no injuries were reported.
