Spring Garden tunes up for baseball playoffs with 8-6 win at Sand Rock

SAND ROCK – The Spring Garden Panthers tuned up for the first round of the Class 1A state baseball playoffs later this week with an 8-6 victory at Sand Rock on Monday.

Hayes Garmon and Reece Winstead both had a pair of hits for the Panthers. Garmon also drove in a run. Braxton Haney and Jake Welsh both doubled. Haney drove in two runs and Jake Welsh drove in another. Zane Edwards added a hit and drove in two runs.

Connor Bates had a hit and a walk. Chapel Pope posted a hit and Cam Welsh walked.

Carson Bostick earned the win after working six innings. He gave up five earned runs and four walks with a pair of strikeouts.

Bates worked an inning of two-hit ball. He gave up an unearned run.

Spring Garden travels to Donoho on Tuesday at 4:30 before hitting the road to Sumiton Christian on Friday for the first round of the state playoffs on Friday with a doubleheader scheduled for 1 p.m. A third game if necessary will be Saturday at 1 p.m.
