The man who fell to his death at Little River Falls on Tuesday has now been identified as a northwest Georgia man.
Cherokee County Coroner Jeremy Deaton informed WEIS Radio News that William Gregory McCary age 57 of Rome, was apparently taking photographs, when he slipped and fell some sixty-five feet to his death just prior to 12:00 noon. His body was recovered by members of the Fischer Rescue Squad and members of the Ft Payne Fire Department around 1:00pm.
McCary was actually just inside the Cherokee County line when the accident took place.
According to a news release by the National Park Service, McCary had fallen over an edge of the overlook after climbing over a protective railing.
The incident remains under investigation.
