The Cherokee County Board of Education held a Special Work Session on Thursday evening at the Cherokee County Career & Tech Center with the agenda consisting of only one item, that being a discussion with parents regarding a Seven Period Day VS Block Scheduling.

Despite the lack of a quorum among board members, that meeting moved forward with the small gathering of parents sharing their views, discussing the pros and cons of each method with data being presented regarding the amount of actual accumulated time spent learning on a side-by-side comparison basis, retention of knowledge as related to testing, homework and other issues.

Superintendent Mitchell Guice told WEIS Radio News, when a vote is taken, should there be any changes he would suggest those go into effect starting with the 2018/19 school year, in order to give teachers the time they need for professional development prior to making the transition to teaching on a different schedule.

He added that additional meetings will be held for further discussion on the matter.

The next regular meeting of the Cherokee County Board of Education is slated for Thursday May 18th at 6:00pm – taking place at the Central Board Office on East Main Street in Centre

That meeting is open to the public.
