The Cherokee County Board of Education has appointed Centre Attorney Corey Colbert to fill the unexpired term of Derrick Wheeler who passed away earlier this year following an extensive illness. Colbert says he is honored by the appointment and says he looks forward to working with the board.
School Board Chairman Brian Jennings said that the board went through several well qualified applicants narrowing it down to two before opening the floor for nominations, the decision to nominated Colbert was unanimous.
In other business the board also voted to rescind a resolution the previously adopted in favor of appointing superintendent.
The board also approved and agreement with Pitney Bowes for Central Office Postage Meter, approved a revised Network Administrator salary schedule and approved the Smart Work Ethics proposal.
A proposed Youth Suicide and Prevention Policy was presented to review in addition to a copy of the December 2016 bank reconciliation, cash balance and financial report and the accounts payable for January.
Personnel Items approved were – the resignation of Mary Beth Brannon.
Classified Placements – Emilie Thompson, CNP Manager Assistant at Cherokee County High School pending background clearance, Mary Jean Bradley, Special Education Paraprofessional with bus aide responsibilities and Patricia Brown, Bus Driver at Sand Rock.
Classified Transfers by Agreement – Debbie Holcomb, bus route change from Bus 15 to Bus 16 at Sand Rock.
Contract Employment – Ashley Stancil, Homebound Contract, Wendy Moon, Homebound Contract and Avery Dawson Foshee, 21st Century Paraprofessional for Extra-Curricular activities.
Supplement Addition – Ty Jackson, Baseball Stats and Pitch Count Totals – $400 plus benefits.
