CEDAR BLUFF– Sewell Ferry Road will close at Alabama 9 on Monday, Oct. 26, as a paving project gets underway.
The Town of Cedar Bluff has built a temporary access road between Piggly Wiggly and Dollar General on Alabama 9. That entrance will provide access to Sewell Ferry Road and several nearby streets during the work.
First, crews will move equipment to the job site Thursday, Oct. 22, and Friday, Oct. 23. The town then plans to shut down the Sewell Ferry Road entrance at Alabama 9 the following Monday.
The overall project should last until late November, according to the town’s Oct. 19 notice. However, the notice does not give a separate reopening date for the entrance.

Temporary Route Will Serve Nearby Streets
In addition to Sewell Ferry Road, the temporary entrance will provide access to:
- Hidden Cove Circle
- Hidden Cove Lane
- Hidden Cove Drive
- River Point
- LakeSide Lane
- North and South Quail Run Drive
Meanwhile, the town and the company performing the work will install road-closed and detour signs.
Road and Drainage Improvements
Earlier this year, the Alabama Department of Transportation announced a $350,000 grant for improvements to Sewell Ferry Road and Hidden Cove Circle. Its project listing also identified $100,000 in local funds, bringing the planned funding total to $450,000.
The listed work covers 0.55 miles and includes resurfacing, rehabilitation, and drainage improvements.
Later, the Cedar Bluff Town Council accepted a $386,238.89 bid for the Sewell Ferry Road project. WEIS Radio reported the council’s approval following its September meeting.
Mayor Bill Warren said the lower-than-expected bid would allow sealing, patching, and repairs to extend farther down the road than anticipated.
For project questions, the town’s notice lists LADD Engineering Chief Engineer Adam Lea at 256-717-7455. It also lists Chief Inspector Bejan Talleri at 256-717-7091 and says he will remain on site throughout the project.
