Police Cars, Halloween Candy, and Water Tower Headline the Discussion at Centre City Council Meeting

The Centre City Council acted on three items related to police cars at their October 13th meeting. The group surplused two 1985 K10 Blazers, and approved the purchase of three new vehicles at $72,221.34  apiece. The council also voted to renew the department’s body cam contract and purchase in-car cameras. That total came to $46,272.88.

The city council approved the purchase of $3,000 worth of Halloween candy for the Police/Fire Dept. Trunk-or-Treat event October 31st on Main Street.

Mayor Pro Tempore Karen Yarbrough Slupe stated that she’d heard concerns from citizens about the appearance of the unused water tower behind City Hall. The councilwoman referred to an estimate from Ladd Environmental that stated a $58,000 – $65,000 cost to dismantle and remove the 75,000 gallon tower. Since Centre Water Works is responsible for the structure, the council could take no action.
