Rev. Barry Wayne Kerr, 69, passed away unexpectedly on September 6, 2026.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 10, 2026 from 1:00 to 3:00 PM at Perry Funeral Home. The funeral service will take place at 3:00 PM in the Perry Funeral Home Chapel.
As a young man, he received degrees from Shorter College and New Orleans Baptist Theological
Seminary. Following his sense of calling, he worked to improve the lives of children and families
throughout Georgia (in LaGrange, West Point, and St. Simons Island) by creating both Twin
Cedars Youth Services and Morningstar Children and Family Services.
In retirement, Barry returned to his roots in Centre, AL to join his family’s business, Kerr’s Redi-Mix, Inc. and to live out his farming dreams. He was most proud of his work with the Master Gardeners of Cherokee
County, and as an honorary member of the McCord’s Crossroads Homemakers Club. He was
compassionate, generous, and faithful, and also poured himself into every project he pursued.
Barry was preceded in death by his baby sister Sherry, and will be buried next to her in Old
Nazareth Cemetery. Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Kathy Sunrich Kerr; his son,
Jonathan Wayne Kerr (Brunswick, GA); his daughter, Gigi Kerr (Rory) Naeve (Oak Ridge, TN);
his granddaughters Georgia Kerr, Lydia Naeve, and Susanna Naeve; his parents, Doyle and
Annie Kerr (Centre, AL); his siblings, Bradley (Debbie) Kerr (Piedmont, AL), Nancy (John)
Bryant (Covington, GA), and Cindy Kerr (Centre, AL), as well as many other relatives and dear friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his memory to the Master Gardeners of Cherokee County and/or McCords Crossroads Homemakers Club.
