FORT PAYNE– DeKalb County Fair organizers have issued a statement addressing reports of possible credit card overcharges and unauthorized transactions.
DeKalb County VFW Post 3128 shared the statement concerning purchases during the 71st annual DeKalb County VFW Agricultural Fair.
Organizers apologized to anyone experiencing inconvenience or financial concerns. They also urged the public to avoid speculation or assigning blame while the reports undergo review.
According to the statement, Kissel Entertainment immediately requested an investigation through its payment software provider after receiving reports. The company also pledged to work immediately to remedy any fraudulent charges.
Organizers did not identify a cause for the reported transactions or provide findings from the requested investigation.
Payment Security Claims
The statement says the payment system uses encryption and tokenization to protect cardholder information during processing. It also says the system complies with applicable Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard requirements.
In addition, the statement reports that physical inspections found no signs of tampering on any payment terminals.
Those descriptions reflect the statement’s account of payment security. They do not identify the source of the reported charges.
What Customers Should Do
Anyone who believes a carnival ticket or ride purchase resulted in an incorrect charge should contact Kissel Entertainment directly.
Additionally, organizers urged customers who notice unfamiliar or unauthorized charges to contact their financial institution immediately. They recommended disputing those charges, securing the account, and asking whether additional protective measures are necessary.
The statement emphasized a shared commitment among the fair, the City of Fort Payne, and Kissel Entertainment to protecting guests’ trust.
Organizers also noted that volunteers, many of them veterans, work throughout the year to support the fair. The event benefits veterans, their families, young people, and the surrounding community, according to the statement.
Finally, fair organizers thanked the community for its patience and continued support while the concerns receive review.
