GADSDEN– Mayor Craig Ford won reelection Tuesday as Gadsden voters decided municipal offices across the city.

According to the City of Gadsden’s unofficial results, Ford received 3,548 votes, or 67.87%. Challenger Thomas Worthy received 1,680 votes, or 32.13%.

However, the totals do not include provisional ballots and remain subject to official review. The Gadsden City Council will declare the official results Sept. 1.

District 1 Council Race Remains Close

The District 1 City Council contest appears headed to a Sept. 22 runoff after no candidate won a majority.

Incumbent Tonya Lynn Latham led with 271 votes, or 33.46%. Meanwhile, LaMont Kyle received 259 votes, or 31.98%, placing him second in the preliminary count.

Brandon “Bowtie” Hall finished only five votes behind Kyle with 254, or 31.36%. Russell Johnson received 26 votes, or 3.21%.

Because provisional ballots remain uncounted, the apparent Latham-Kyle runoff pairing is not yet final.

City Council Results

In District 3, incumbent Larry J. Avery Jr. defeated Denecia Ann Getaw. Avery received 376 votes, or 63.30%, while Getaw received 218, or 36.70%.

Meanwhile, Linda Riggins Aaron won District 5 with 385 votes, or 56.12%. Councilman Jason Wilson, who died Aug. 19, received 301 votes, or 43.88%.

However, Wilson’s name remained on the printed ballot. Additionally, candidates Curtis Fail and Joey Nichols had withdrawn from the race.

In District 6, Renay Stokes Reeves defeated incumbent Dixie Minatra. Reeves received 246 votes, or 60.44%, while Minatra received 161, or 39.56%.

Also, incumbent Chris Robinson won District 7 with 742 votes, or 74.05%. Singn Horn received 260 votes, or 25.95%.

Steve Smith in District 2 and Kent Back in District 4 were previously elected without opposition.

School Board Results

Incumbent Adrienne Reed won the Gadsden City Board of Education District 1 race. Reed received 559 votes, or 68.67%, while Cynthia W. Toles received 255, or 31.33%.

Meanwhile, incumbent Mike Haney won District 4 with 719 votes, or 65.48%. K. Tiffany Ballou received 379 votes, or 34.52%.

Five other school board incumbents were elected without opposition. They are Areatha Rita Smith, Z. Andre’ Huff, Mark Dayton, Nancy Stewart, and Wm. Allen Millican.

Ultimately, the city’s new administration will begin Nov. 2. Any required runoff election will be held Sept. 22.
