UPDATE: Shandreke Gill, who was previously being sought for questioning, has been located and spoken with by detectives. No further assistance regarding Gill’s whereabouts is needed.
GADSDEN– The Gadsden Police Department is seeking suspects and wants to question Shandreke Gill following Friday night’s Waffle House shooting.
According to a revised department statement, Gill is believed to be traveling in a 2016 Jeep Cherokee.
The shooting injured several juveniles at the restaurant at 1000 Rainbow Drive.
Officers responded at approximately 10:45 p.m. on Aug. 21 after receiving reports of a shooting. At the scene, first responders treated the injured juveniles and transported them for additional medical care.
Earlier Saturday, Gadsden Mayor Craig Ford told WEIS Radio News that four teenagers were injured. In addition, Ford said all four were in stable condition and expected to survive.
However, the later police statement described the injured only as several juveniles. It did not provide updated information about their conditions.
Furthermore, police thanked the Gadsden Fire Department, EMS providers, area hospitals, and LifeFlight crews for assisting the victims.
Investigators Seek Suspects and Gill
According to the statement, officers protected those at the scene, secured evidence, and identified witnesses. Meanwhile, detectives and crime scene investigators continued pursuing leads through the night and into Saturday.
Investigators have identified suspects and are working to locate them. In addition, police are seeking Shandreke Gill for questioning in connection with the case.
However, the statement does not identify Gill as a suspect or accuse Gill of a crime. Instead, the department said detectives want to question Gill about the shooting.
The release did not provide the suspects’ names or say how many people investigators are seeking. At the same time, police said Gill is believed to be traveling in a 2016 Jeep Cherokee.
Police Ask Community for Information
The department acknowledged the concern and anger surrounding the shooting, especially because it involved young people. In particular, officials noted that the shooting happened where families and students gather after Friday night football games.
“Our community should be able to enjoy those moments without fear,” the department said.
As a result, the department said officers will continue protecting the public and pursuing every available lead.
