GUNTERSVILLE– The Marshall County Sheriff’s Office arrested Kellis Busbin on felony domestic violence strangulation and second-degree elder abuse charges.
The charges stem from an alleged assault that occurred July 26. A 64-year-old woman reported the incident to deputies July 28.
According to the sheriff’s office, the woman said her 36-year-old son entered her home while angry and began strangling her. She told investigators that she tried to call 911, but the offender took her phone and prevented her from making calls.
The woman said the offender strangled her until she lost consciousness. Deputies reported finding bruising on her arm, a scratch on her neck, and other visible injuries consistent with an assault.
Investigator Hall took over the case and identified Busbin as the suspect. Hall later secured warrants charging Busbin with domestic violence strangulation and second-degree elder abuse. Both charges are felonies.
Authorities said Busbin had lived in a mobile home on the victim’s property but left after the alleged assault. Deputies made several attempts to find him before his arrest.
On Aug. 18, K-9 Sgt. Cagan Ridgway spotted Busbin driving in the 600 block of North Brindlee Mountain Parkway. Ridgway conducted a traffic stop and took Busbin into custody without incident.
Officials booked Busbin into the Marshall County Jail and set a $60,000 property bond.
“I want victims of domestic violence and elder abuse to know that the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office takes these cases seriously,” Sheriff Phil Sims said. “We will investigate them thoroughly, we will pursue those accused of committing these crimes, and we will continue looking for them until they are located and brought before the court.”
Sims also thanked sheriff’s office personnel for their dedication to protecting Marshall County residents.
The law presumes Busbin innocent unless a court finds him guilty.
