Gadsden Mourns Death of District 5 Councilman Jason Wilson

District 5 Councilman Jason Wilson remembered by the City of Gadsden

GADSDEN– The City of Gadsden is mourning District 5 Councilman Jason Wilson, who has died.

City officials announced Wilson’s death in a statement.

Gadsden City Council President Kent Back praised Wilson’s devotion to the city and its residents.

“Jason loved this City,” Back said.

He called serving beside Wilson an honor and noted they had worked together for eight years.

In addition, Back praised Wilson’s decision to become an organ donor. He said that choice allowed Wilson to continue helping others during his final days.

Back said Wilson leaves a tremendous legacy of service and a void that will be difficult to fill.

Meanwhile, the city’s statement addressed the future of Wilson’s District 5 council seat.

According to the city, Jessica Wilson would accept a council appointment to finish her husband’s current term.

City officials also said state law keeps Wilson eligible for the upcoming municipal election. If voters reelect Wilson, Jessica would accept the term if council members select her.

Finally, Back said council members, city employees, and residents will feel Wilson’s absence.

“Jason will be greatly missed,” Back said.

“We will continue to pray for Jessica and the entire Wilson family,” he added. He also offered prayers for everyone grieving the loss.
