UPDATE: Fort Payne Schools Resume Normal Operations After Lockdown; No Threat Found

FORT PAYNE, Ala. — Fort Payne City Schools placed its campuses on lockdown at approximately 10:45 Monday following a reported safety threat.

The district said local law enforcement responded immediately. School administrators and emergency personnel also began standard safety procedures to secure each campus.

Meanwhile, law enforcement started a districtwide safety check. Officers were working to clear every school as an added precaution.

“All students and staff remain secured and everyone is safe at this time,” the district said.

School officials said they remain in close contact with law enforcement. In addition, the district will continue following all recommended safety procedures.

Officials said they would provide more information to families and employees as soon as it becomes available.

Officials Ask Public to Keep Emergency Lines Open

The City of Fort Payne asked residents not to call 911 with questions about the school situation.

Officials also asked the public not to call the Fort Payne Police Department at 256-845-1414 for information. The city said both lines must remain available for emergencies.

However, neither official statement described the nature or source of the reported threat. Officials also had not announced an all-clear when this report was prepared.
