DOUGLAS, Ala. — A Guntersville woman faces an attempted murder charge following a shooting at an occupied Marshall County home.

According to the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office, someone fired several rounds into a residence on Hambrick Drive around noon Saturday, Aug. 1. Deputies responded to the home in Douglas soon afterward.

The victim and her family remained safe and unharmed. However, deputies found several bullet holes in the front door.

Investigators also discovered shattered glass. By then, the shooter had fled the Mt. Hebron community.

The agency identified Jamie Leann Chandler, 50, of Guntersville, as the suspect. According to investigators, Chandler is the victim’s sister-in-law.

The victim also reported that Chandler had previously threatened to kill her.

Camera System Helps Deputies Locate Suspect

Deputies then shared a description of Chandler’s vehicle with surrounding agencies. Meanwhile, investigators used the Flock Safety camera system to track the vehicle’s movements.

As a result, deputies determined its direction of travel. Officers with the Albertville Police Department later found the vehicle on U.S. Highway 75 near Martling Road.

Officers conducted a felony traffic stop and arrested Chandler without incident. During the stop, deputies recovered a handgun from the vehicle.

Investigators believe the shooter used that handgun during the incident.

Attempted Murder Charge Filed

Authorities charged Chandler with attempted murder. They now hold her in the Marshall County Jail pending an Aniah’s Law hearing.

Marshall County Sheriff Phil Sims praised the deputies and officers involved. He said deputies quickly gathered critical information and shared it with nearby agencies.

Because of that quick exchange, officers located Chandler within about 90 minutes of the shooting.

“This coordinated effort enabled officers to locate the vehicle and safely take the suspect into custody,” Sims said.

Sims also thanked the Albertville Police Department and other assisting agencies for their cooperation.

Still, the charge against Chandler remains an allegation. The law presumes her innocent unless prosecutors prove her guilt in court.
