UNION GROVE– A Marshall County investigation into suspected child sexual abuse material led to two arrests Tuesday, authorities said.

The Marshall County Sheriff’s Office said its investigators received a cybertip July 20. The tip alleged someone possessed child sexual abuse material through the Kik social media platform.

Investigators assigned to the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force worked alongside the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency during the investigation.

Authorities traced the suspected online activity to a Union Grove residence that same day. Investigators identified the suspect as Sebastian Ira Brooks, 25, of Union Grove.

Deputies initially arrested Brooks on an unrelated outstanding warrant from a neighboring agency. The sheriff’s office said investigators later reviewed Brooks’ phone and Kik account.

Investigators then obtained a separate warrant charging Brooks with one count of possession of child sexual abuse material. Deputies returned to the Union Grove residence Tuesday to serve that warrant.

During the visit, investigators reported finding Blake Austin Huckabee, 32, of Guntersville, hiding inside the residence. The sheriff’s office said Huckabee gave deputies a false name.

After determining his identity, investigators learned Huckabee had active outstanding warrants. Authorities accused Huckabee of hitting and kicking deputies while resisting arrest.

Two deputies sustained minor injuries during the struggle, according to the sheriff’s office.

Authorities transported both men to the Marshall County Jail. The sheriff’s office initially reported that Brooks had a $15,000 bond. The online jail roster recorded his release at 6:21 p.m. Wednesday.

Huckabee faces a felony charge of using a false identity and a resisting arrest charge. He also had an outstanding probation violation warrant and remained listed in custody without bond Wednesday evening.

The charges are allegations. Both men are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
