Rainbow City Police Chief Camp Yancey presents longevity awards to Detective Lieutenant Jason Higgins for 10 years of service and Sergeant Chris Sholar for five years of service.

RAINBOW CITY– The Rainbow City Police Department is recognizing two officers for reaching important milestones in their law enforcement careers.

Detective Lieutenant Jason Higgins received recognition for 10 years of dedicated service to the department and community.

Meanwhile, Sergeant Chris Sholar marked five years of exemplary service.

The department congratulated both officers and thanked them for their service, sacrifice, and continued commitment to Rainbow City.

Police Chief Camp Yancey told WEIS News that longevity awards recognize more than the amount of time an officer has spent with a department. Instead, they represent years of service and the relationships officers build with the people they protect.

“Longevity awards recognize more than years of service; they reflect years of answering the call, building trust, and serving our community,” Yancey said.

“This is a product of high retention. With high retention rates comes a community that knows their officers. That is one of the largest factors in building community trust and relationships: having officers that the community knows.

“Building relationships with the community is one of the most important things to this department, and these two do a fantastic job.”

Yancey said experienced officers provide important continuity within a police department. Their continued presence also gives residents the opportunity to know the officers who serve their neighborhoods.

The Rainbow City Police Department said it is proud to have Higgins and Sholar as members of its law enforcement family. Department officials encouraged community members to join them in congratulating both officers on their career milestones.
