ANNISTON– The Anniston City Council voted Friday, July 24, to purchase 29 new Chevrolet Tahoes for the Anniston Police Department.

The council approved the purchase during a special called meeting. The Anniston Police Department announced the decision Friday evening and described it as a historic investment in public safety.

APD said the new vehicles will provide officers with more reliable equipment. The department added that dependable vehicles help officers serve the public safely, effectively, and professionally.

The purchase represents a major fleet upgrade for the department.

The department thanked Mayor Ciara Smith-Roston and the Anniston City Council for approving the purchase. APD said the decision demonstrates the city’s continued support for its police officers and public safety operations.

Department leaders also emphasized the importance of supporting officers who work long hours and respond to difficult calls throughout the community. APD said those officers deserve reliable equipment as they serve Anniston residents.
