ANNISTON– An Anniston drug investigation led law enforcement officers to take six people into custody on Wednesday, July 22. Officers executed a search warrant at a residence in the 1100 block of Pine Avenue.
According to the Anniston Police Department, investigators began examining the suspected illegal distribution of controlled substances at the residence.
Police Execute Search Warrant
Anniston Police investigators developed probable cause and obtained a search warrant for the property.
Later that evening, investigators executed the warrant with help from several specialized units. The operation included the Anniston Police Special Response Team, the APD drone team, the 7th Judicial Major Crimes Unit, and the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office.
During the search, investigators reported finding suspected synthetic cannabinoids, commonly called “spice.” They also recovered suspected methamphetamine, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia.
Arrests and Charges
Police arrested four people on Anniston Police Department charges or outstanding warrants.
Officers charged Keandra Morgan, 34, of Anniston, with second-degree promoting prison contraband, first-degree possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, identity theft, and first-degree theft of property.
Police charged James Roberts, 72, of Anniston, with unlawful possession of a controlled substance and failure to appear.
Officers arrested Anthony McKinney, 43, of Oxford, on a failure-to-appear warrant.
Police also arrested Jutavious English, 36, of Anniston, on a failure-to-appear warrant.
Two Additional Arrests
Officers took two other people into custody at the Pine Avenue residence. Authorities arrested one person on a Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office warrant and another on an Oxford Police Department warrant.
Anniston Police did not release their names or provide details about the outstanding warrants.
Investigation Remains Ongoing
The Anniston Police Department thanked the 7th Judicial Major Crimes Unit and the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office for assisting with the operation.
Department officials said partnerships among local law enforcement agencies strengthen public safety efforts throughout the community.
Police continue to investigate the case and said additional charges could follow. The charges remain allegations, and each defendant has the right to contest them in court.
