Jacksonville Police Department to Offer Free Two-Day Firearm Safety Course

JACKSONVILLE– The Jacksonville Police Department will offer a free, two-day firearm safety course for community members beginning Wednesday, July 29.

The course will cover firearm safety, state and federal laws, self-defense tactics and marksmanship fundamentals. It will include a classroom session and a separate range day.

The classroom session will take place Wednesday, July 29, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Jacksonville City Court. The court is located at 911 Public Safety Drive SW.

Range day is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 1, from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. The training will take place at the Jacksonville Range on Snyder Mountain Road.

Participants must provide their own firearm and ammunition. They must also bring eye and hearing protection.

In addition, the police department requires participants to wear a ball cap during range day.
