Coosa Riverkeeper Reports High E. coli at Five Swim Guide Sites

GADSDEN– Coosa Riverkeeper reported high E. coli levels at five of 45 tested sites in its latest weekly Swim Guide results.

The Week 8 results, dated July 9, showed low bacteria levels at 35 sites. Five sites had moderate levels, while five others had high levels.

On Neely Henry Lake, Big Canoe Creek at Highway 231 and Black Creek recorded high bacteria levels. Little Canoe Creek had moderate levels.

Coosa Riverkeeper reported low levels at Beaver Creek Slough, Lower Big Canoe Creek and Big Wills Creek. Low results also came from Hokes Bluff Mill Pond, Jack L. Ray Park, Southside Landing and Ten Islands.

High bacteria levels were also reported at Upper Choccolocco Creek and Cheaha Creek in the Logan Martin Lake area. Risers Park on Lay Lake also recorded a high result.

Moderate levels were found at the Highway 77 Boat Ramp on Logan Martin Lake. Pop’s Place Boat Launch on Lay Lake also had moderate levels. Yellow Leaf Creek and Corn Creek Park recorded moderate levels in the Lake Mitchell, Lake Jordan and tailwaters area.

Coosa Riverkeeper reminds swimmers to wait at least 48 hours after heavy rainfall before entering the water. The organization also recommends covering cuts and scrapes and showering after swimming.
