Fyffe Man Arrested Following Weekend Shooting Incident; No Injuries Reported

FORT PAYNE – A 19-year-old Fyffe man has been arrested following a shooting incident Sunday night that prompted a multi-agency law enforcement response in southern DeKalb County.

According to DeKalb County Sheriff Nick Welden, deputies and officers responded after DeKalb County 911 received a call from an adult male reporting that another man had fired multiple shots at his vehicle.

The incident occurred in Fyffe and drew a response from the Fyffe Police Department, Rainsville Police Department, and the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office.

When officers arrived at the reported location, they discovered that both the victim and the suspect had already left the scene. Investigators said the victim drove to a nearby restaurant to safely wait for law enforcement, while the suspect’s whereabouts were initially unknown. Authorities issued a Be On the Lookout (BOLO) alert for the suspect’s vehicle as deputies and investigators began searching the area.

DeKalb County investigators processed the crime scene and collected evidence. Preliminary findings revealed that multiple rounds of gunfire struck the victim’s occupied vehicle while he was inside. Investigators also determined that at least one bullet struck the window of a nearby gas station that was occupied at the time of the shooting.

According to investigators, the victim and suspect were acquainted through previous relationships with the same female acquaintance.

While investigators were still processing the scene, the suspect, identified as Caleb Andrew Ashley, 19, of Fyffe, voluntarily returned to speak with law enforcement. After providing a statement and following consultation with the DeKalb County District Attorney’s Office, Ashley was taken into custody.

Ashley has been charged with three counts of Shooting into an Occupied Vehicle and one count of Shooting into an Occupied Building.

Authorities said the exact motive behind the shooting remains under investigation.

Sheriff Nick Welden expressed gratitude that no one was injured during the incident.

“We are extremely fortunate this incident did not end in tragedy,” Sheriff Welden said. “Firing a weapon into an occupied vehicle creates a dangerous situation that puts everyone at risk, not only those directly involved but also innocent people in the community.”

The investigation remains active and ongoing. No additional information has been released.
