Alabama Voters Select Nominees in Primary Runoff Election; Results Await Certification

MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Alabama voters returned to the polls Tuesday, June 16, to decide several closely watched primary runoff races for statewide offices, congressional seats, legislative districts, and judicial positions.

The results reported by the Alabama Secretary of State’s Office remain unofficial pending canvassing and certification.

Among the statewide Republican contests, John Wahl defeated Wes Allen in the race for Lieutenant Governor, receiving 56.99 percent of the vote to Allen’s 43.01 percent.

In the Republican runoff for the U.S. Senate nomination, Barry Moore secured the nomination with 55.80 percent of the vote over Jared Hudson, who received 44.20 percent.

The Democratic U.S. Senate runoff was won by Everett Wess, who received 54.59 percent of the vote, defeating Dakarai Larriett, who received 45.41 percent.

In the Republican race for Attorney General, Katherine Robertson defeated Jay Mitchell, receiving 55.07 percent of the vote compared to Mitchell’s 44.93 percent.

The Republican nomination for Commissioner of Agriculture and Industries went to Corey Hill, who earned 53.30 percent of the vote over Christina Woerner McInnis, who received 46.70 percent.

In the Republican runoff for Public Service Commission Place 2, Jim “Zig” Zeigler narrowly defeated Chris Beeker, receiving 51.34 percent of the vote to Beeker’s 48.66 percent.

In the Democratic runoff for Alabama’s 5th Congressional District, Andrew Sneed won decisively with 78.39 percent of the vote, defeating Candice Dollar Duvieilh, who received 21.61 percent.

Several legislative and local races were also decided during Tuesday’s runoff election.

In the Republican runoff for State Board of Education District 8, Emily Jones defeated William Matthews with 53.55 percent of the vote.

In the Republican runoff for Circuit Court Judge, 19th Judicial Circuit, Place 5, Carol Cook Carter defeated Bradley Earl Ekdahl, receiving 52.18 percent of the vote.

Democratic voters in State Senate District 2 selected Rudolph Valentino Drake, who received 53.49 percent of the vote, over Alex House, who garnered 46.51 percent.

Republican voters in State House District 17 chose Phil Segraves, who defeated Micheal Beck with 64.28 percent of the vote.

In State House District 37, Republican voters selected Jeff Monroe, who received 62.65 percent of the vote over John Jacobs.

Democratic voters in State House District 52 chose GiGi Hayes, who won with 74.89 percent of the vote, defeating LaTanya Millhouse.

In State House District 82, Pebblin W. Warren secured the Democratic nomination with 61.48 percent of the vote over Sidney “Doc” Brown.

The Republican runoff in State House District 95 was one of the closest legislative races of the evening, with Frances Holk-Jones defeating Joe Freeman by a margin of 52.29 percent to 47.71 percent.

The results remain unofficial until they are canvassed and certified by state election officials. Once certified, the winning candidates will advance to the November General Election ballot where applicable.
