Gadsden Public Library Announces Children’s Summer Reading Program and Kickoff Event

GADSDEN — The Gadsden Public Library has released details for its annual Children’s Summer Reading Program, offering a full slate of activities designed to encourage reading, learning, and fun for local youth.

The program is open to children ages 0–12 and will run throughout the summer, featuring weekly events, interactive programs, and opportunities for participants to earn prizes. Library officials said the initiative is aimed at keeping children engaged academically while school is out, while also providing a welcoming space for social interaction and creativity.

Registration for the Summer Reading Program will be available both online and in person from May 1 through June 18. However, officials noted that children do not have to be registered or hold a library card to attend events, making the program accessible to all families in the community.

The library will officially kick off the summer schedule with a Summer Reading Kickoff Party on May 22 from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. The event will include food trucks, temporary tattoos, and carnival-style games.

Throughout June, the library will host weekly programs as part of the summer lineup, typically held in the mornings. Activities will include educational presentations, interactive entertainment, and special guest appearances designed to make reading both enjoyable and rewarding.

In addition to attending events, participants are encouraged to read books to earn prizes, explore new topics, and build a lifelong love of reading. Library staff emphasized that the program is not only about literacy, but also about creating positive experiences and lasting memories for children and their families.

Those interested in registering or learning more can contact the Gadsden Public Library at 256-549-4699, visit the library at 254 South College Street, or find additional information online at www.gadsdenlibrary.org and on the library’s social media pages.
