Etowah County’s Newest 501(c)(3) Charity Delivering Hope Door to Door

When Mollie Smith arrived late to her club’s monthly fundraiser, it was not because she lost track of time.
A family in Etowah County was nearly out of food.
“Last month, I was late to trivia because we received an emergency call that a family was almost out of groceries,” said Smith, president of the Etowah County Lions Club. “I had to make that delivery first. That’s what Lions do — we show up when people need us.”
The club operates with the Etowah County Lions Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, and all donations are tax-deductible as allowed by law. As part of Lions Clubs International, the group focuses on serving local families facing food insecurity, particularly those with transportation or mobility challenges.
More than 17,000 individuals in Etowah County live below the poverty level, and many struggle to access traditional assistance.
“I am so proud of our Lions,” Smith said. “They are compassionate, quick to respond, and willing to do whatever it takes to help someone in need. They never fail to inspire me.”
The organization is primarily funded through its monthly “Name That Tune” music trivia fundraiser held at Baja California Grill in Rainbow City at 6 p.m. on the second Thursday of each month.
